7 Ways to Keep your Hair Extensions From Drying out

The winter has come and the hair tends to be dry and rough if not be taken a good care of.

hair-extension1

Moreover, just like your natural hair, extensions must be properly taken care of to keep them looking their best.If not taken care of, your extensions will soon dry out, looking dull and lifeless.

Here are seven things that you can do to keep your clip in hair extensions of Donalovehair from drying out.

1. SHAMPOO YOUR CLIP IN EXTENSIONS
Clip in hair extensions are designed to be taken out each day;
they are not made to be worn for several days in a row.

 fcf5a5b27c683bb104ed82ce85f122a7

With clip in extensions, you want to wash them in a sink to ensure you get all of the shampoo out of them, but you don’t want to wash them every day as that will cause them to dry out faster.

2. CONDITION YOUR CLIP IN EXTENSIONS

After cleaning your extensions, you will want to apply a small amount of conditioner every other day and it should be applied gently with a comb.

Conditioner is a great way to keep your extensions from drying out, but never use a leave in conditioner as that will leave your hair looking oily.

3. AVOID CHEAP EXTENSIONS
You often get what you pay for, so if you are buying cheap hair extensions chances are they get pool quality and will not last.
When buying hair extensions we suggest buying human hair extensions, which is often reflected in the price.
In addition, human hair extensions can be treated just like your own hair.

4. AVOID BLOW-DRYING YOUR EXTENSIONS
Blow-drying might speed things up for you, but is also really damaging to your extensions.
Whenever possible allow your extensions to dry naturally.
If you do need to use a blow dryer make sure you talk to a professional about the best way to blow dryer the type of clip in extensions you own.

5. STORE YOUR CLIP IN EXTENSIONS PROPERLY
A big part of protecting your clip in hair extensions is taking care of them.

clip-in-hair-extensions-2

When storing them, make sure they are clean and 100% dry.
Once dry, place inside an airtight container or even plastic bag.
Store the clip in extensions out of direct sunlight!

6. BRUSH YOUR CLIP IN EXTENSIONS
With clip in extensions, you want to avoid brushing or combing them out while they are in place.
Take the clip in extensions out and lay them on a flat surface to make brushing easier.

aid586980-728px-care-for-clip-in-hair-extensions-step-1-version-3

When brushing your extensions always use a wide-teeth brush and work from the ends up, slowly working out the knots.
Never rip or pull the hair, as this will cause the hair to become damaged, as well as fall out.

7. USE A HEAT PROTECTING PRODUCT
Extensions made from human hair are able to be styled just as your own hair can be styled, which includes using a flat iron and other heated styling tools.

heat-protect-spray-600x400

Overusing these tools will lead to your extensions and regular hair becoming dry and brittle, but a good heat protecting product can help keep your extensions looking their best.

Taking proper care of your hair extensions is the best thing that you can do to prevent them from drying out.

So do not rush or skip any steps that your stylist recommends!

Tips on Taking Care of Your Clip in Hair Extensions

Once you’ve invested in a great pair of hair extensions (clips, fusion, bonds, sew-ins, etc) it’s important to take extremely good care of them so they will last. A good pair of hair extensions that are very well maintained can last you 2 years. If you drag them through the coals and treat them poorly they can get raggedy, broken and damaged very easily. Don’t you think you should take some extra steps to make sure you get your money’s worth? Here are some tips for taking care of your hair extensions ,hope these can do help for you .

1. Use the right brush

When you get your hair extensions they will usually be squished down from packaging or from sealed bags with the air removed. Take the extensions out of the packaging and shake them out. Run your fingers through the hair and begin to let the hair fall into place. When brushing your hair don’t start from the root, pulling too hard can loosen the clips. Start brushing about an inch from the top of the hair and use a looped brush. This will help prevent pulls and snags on the hair. Do not use your regular hair brush on your hair extensions ,pls use the wide-tooth and de-tangle brush like the brush we send to our customers.

brush

2. Stop Over-Washing

Even if you wear your hair extensions every single day you do NOT have to wash them with the same frequency of your natural hair. Hair extensions don’t need to be washed often, unless you are in a smokey bar (the hair will absord that smell just like your naturla hair). I also don’t put a ton of hair spray or styling product on my clip in extensions so there is no real need to wash them monthly or even bi monthly. Washing them too much will make them get damaged faster and it’s just not necessary. If you feel they do need a wash I recommend using cold water and a very gentle shampoo. Start 1-2 inches from the top of the weft and just apply shampoo to the hair, in the sink. Don’t rub the hair hard, be gentle. Rinse out the shampoo and put a small amount of moisturizing conditioner. Rinse and ring dry.

3. Air Drying

If you have gotten your hair extensions wet or just washed them put a towel down and lay them out flat on the towel. Do not blow dry your hair extension unless you absolutely have to (if you have to wear them that evening and they won’t air dry in time). I really prefer to never put a hair dryer to my hair extensions to keep them soft and prevent damage. If you let them just air dry over night on the towel they will last much longer. When they are wet don’t brush them, leave them to dry then you can brush later to prevent snags and pulls.

3

4.  Do not touch Them Often

Don’t keep touching them throughout the day/night. As with your natural hair, touching your hair non stop causing you to transfer oil from your hands to your hair. Not only will you eventually really start making your hair look shiney and oily, but taking the hair constantly can always make it ratty so don’t play with it all day.

7

5. Don’t tease it

Since hair extensions are clipped in, glued on or sewn in, there really is no way to tease at the root for lift. Don’t go under the extensions and go teasing at them. Tease your natural hair on top but don’t back comb your hair extensions. The fullness from your hair and the extra volume from having extra hair on your head is enough.

6

6.  Beat the Heat

Apply a heat protectant if you plan to curl or flat iron your hair extensions: I usually will only spray this on the middle to ends since I only curl half way up anyway. This will help to prevent the tools from getting too hot on your hair. What you will notice too with good hair extensions is they will hold curl very well, so odds are you can curl them today and next week they will still be holding the curl. Apply heat when needed but just like your real hair, over time it will cause breakage and damage.

9_%e5%89%af%e6%9c%ac

7. Store Them Safely

Put your hair extensions away neatly at night. Don’t just rip them out of your head and put them on a dresser or in a drawer. Find a container or box to lay them out in nicely and make sure they are condensed and neat. The last thing you want is them to wind up in a messy, matted pile. Take care of them when storing them and also keep them away from heat or cold. Put them in a dry place away from anything that can damage them (a window, air conditioner, heater, etc.)

10 Ways to Make Your Hair Look More Thicker and Fuller

Try these 10 instant ways to make your hair look thicker, fuller, and bouncier — right now. Gorgeous bombshell hair, here you come!

1.USE THE HAIR-DRYER

A few tweaks to your blow-dry technique can majorly boost your results. Start by flipping your head to either side as you rough-dry your hair with your hands. Then, once you begin styling with a round brush, pull each section out to the side, at a 90-degree angle, instead of flipping your hair over and straight down. This technique will add thickness and bounce throughout the hair, instead of just at the roots.

2.CHANGE UP YOUR PRODUCTS

The FAQ about the Hair Extensions

1.Which type of extensions is suitable for you ?

We have an article talk about this please check our blog

How To Choose Which Hair Extension Method Is Right For You

2.Do hair extensions damage your hair?

We believe that every technique used by a professional, for both the application and removal of the hair extensions, along with the proper maintenance done by the client, will not result in damaged hair (see advice sheet). The only risk that can affect the quality of long-term hair is by using the heat fusion technique.

3. How to choose the length of your hair extensions?

You can choose any length of extensions based on your personal specifications or dependent upon your natural hair length.
No matter how long your hair is, clip in hair extensions should be worn from a lower part, about 2-6 inch down from your hair top.
Please note that, we highly recommend you to wear clip in hair extensions when your hair is longer than 6 inch.

1

4.What’s the hair texture ?

Usually we provide two types of hair texture, the Silky hair and the Yaki hair .We suggest you choose the right hair texture for yourself .The Yaki hair is usually for the Africa-American with the Yaki hair,so you better not choose the Yaki texture if you with silky hair or the silky hair with Yaki hair .

2

5.What is virgin hair?

Virgin hair is chemically unprocessed human hair, which is collected from a single donor (the donor could be Indian, Malaysian, Brazilian, etc). The virgin hair is remy hair that has not been altered by dyes, perms, bleaches, or harsh washes. We only uses grade AAA virgin hair, which is the highest quality hair on the market.

6.What is the difference between remy and non-remy hair?

Remy hair is gathered from the head of donors/producers in such a way as to keep the hair’s cuticles properly aligned in relation to its neighboring hairs. This means the hair remains softer and silkier, and is useful in producing higher-quality wigs, extensions and hairpieces.

Remy hair is not necessarily virgin hair, since it may be colored or permed. Its defining features are an intact cuticle and the manner in which it was harvested.
We only provide virgin cuticle aligned hair that is not chemically processed.
Non-remy hair is the left over hair that in most cases is gathered from the floors of temples and salons then recycled to make a weft. The hair cuticles are facing various directions, which causes the hair to tangle and matte quite easily. Because sellers know this, they often dip the hair in a silicone coating to try to disguise the hair. This hair is often found in beauty supply stores and is less likely to be used for more than one install.

7. How long do DONALOVEHAIR extensions last?

It depends on how frequently you wear your hair extensions, which style you select and what you do to them, so for example are you regularly applying heat o them? The hair can exceed 1 year assuming that they have been well installed and maintained. Maintenance also refers to visiting the stylist for periodic adjustments. The hair can be removed and reinstalled so long as your stylist exercises care and patience during the removal process. Take proper care of your hair and enjoy the lasting benefits.

8. How can I pick out the perfect extensions color matching natural hair?

It is the reflection of light, which comes off the colored pigments in the hair at certain wavelengths; hair color is very dynamic since the reflection commonly differs depending on the frequency and intensity of the light hitting the hair.

So to ensure you get optimum results please refer to the hair Color Chart and Hair Color Comparison pages here or alternatively send us pictures of your hair to our customer service team via email at customerservice@donalovehair.com  where we will offer you suitable suggestions for color selection.

4

9.Can I color my hair extensions?

All hair extensions can be colored darker, but this process should definitely not be abused. Also, please avoid discoloring them! This procedure will be too dehydrating for your extensions

How To Choose Which Hair Extension Method Is Right For You

What is the best hair extension method for me? The answer to this question depends on several factors. It depends on your hair, your scalp, your lifestyle, the result you would like to accomplish and of course also your budget. The available systems can be different in the way the hair extensions are prepared, in the technique used to attach it to your own hair, and in what kind of hair is used. Some systems only differ from the materials that are used or just from name. For example micro-cilinder and micro-beads are two very similar hair extension techniques.

And here are six types of hair extensions and some advice ,hope this can help you to learn more about hair extensions and choose the most suitable hair extensions for yourself .

1.Sew-in

Sew-ins are cost-effective, easy maintenance and fairly easy to remove. The hair is braided tightly to create a base for the hair wefts to be sewn and attached. Not all hair types can handle the stress from the braiding and weight of the extensions. You need to have the hair retightened through the four months. There are many different textures, colors and types of hair for you to pick from and there are many different price points, based on quality and length .

1

2.Top Pieces

Top pieces are great for people who have  thinning hair on the top of the head. The extension adds thickness and volume to the top of the head to help camouflage thinning hair.

2

3.Micro link

Micro links can be known as micro beads or locks, they are gentle to put in and easy to take out. Links can be added for length and volume. There is no glue or heat used when applying. To apply, a small silicone bead is placed onto the base of the hair, with an individual strand of extension that is attached. Please be careful not to use conditioner near the bead to help reduce slipping of the extension. Your  have to come in every couple of months to have the extensions retightened. Micro links last about four months.

3

4.Tape-in

Tape-ins can add more length volume and thickness. It takes only a short amount of time to install the extensions. You may need to come in every six to eight weeks to have them removed and reinstalled. They are applied with a heated tool that heats up a thin strip of glue that is on the hair weft. Your hair is put between two wefts to create a seal. You do have to be careful with using heavy conditioners or oils because that can cause slipping. They are nice for you because they can reuse the extensions many times before having to order new extensions.

4

5.Fusion

Hot or cold fusion is used on individual keratin bonds. Fusion extensions are great for  you to seeking length and volume and want little maintenance while the extensions are in . You can treat the extensions as if it were their own hair. Fusion extensions might not be suitable for the who that has compromised hair due to the stress it can cause. It can take about two to three hours to have a full head of extensions put in and last about four months.  This is one of the more costly extensions.

5

6.Clip-ins

Clip-ins are wefts of hair that are attached to a clip. Clip-ins come in many different sizes so they can be placed all around the head. They are great for that the people who wants instant gratification for special occasions. Clip-Ins take a short amount of time to put in and around the head. They can add length and volume in just about every texture, color and price range. They do offer synthetic hair, but I do recommend real hair is much easier to style when using heat.

How to Dye Your Clip in Hair Extensions Properly At Home

If your clip in hair extensions aren’t quite the right color and you’d like to color them at home, these steps can guide you through the process. Before you begin you’ll want to make sure that your hair extensions are human hair. Artificial hair can not be successfully colored .

And before you reach for the nearest dye bottle and hastily paint your clip in hair extensions a different colour, there are a couple of things you should consider when dyeing hair extensions.

1.) Do not use more than 20 volume peroxide. As hair extensions are usually drier than our own growing locks, we recommend using a dye that’s no more than 20 volume peroxide, to stop the extensions from drying out further. Also, its best to use a cream based dye, as this is much gentler to use and dye hair extensions with.

1

2.) You should ALWAYS perform a strand test before dyeing your hair extensions. To do this, mix some of the dye into a bowl and apply it to one small clip-in weft. Once the dye has developed, you can then see if the dye is the right shade and determine whether you want to proceed to use the dye on the rest of your hair extensions.

1

Got that? OK, we can now get on with showing you how to dye hair extensions!

1.How to Dye Hair Extensions Ombre

3

The secret to how to dye hair extensions ombre is to dye the top halves of the wefts darker to match the rest of your natural, own growing hair. This means choosing a set of hair extensions that resemble the ends of your chosen ombre look. To dye your hair extensions ombre, you’ll need:

– A mixing bowl
– A tint brush
– Hair dye kit
– Shampoo
– Leave-in conditioner

Once you have all your tools at the ready, you can then proceed to dye your hair extensions ombre.

Step One:Start by applying the dye to the top of your extensions. Then, with a tint brush, gently stroke the dye into the top halves of the wefts, making sure to go in between each strand.

Step Two:After painting your hair extensions, leave the dye to develop and follow the instructions for the recommended time.

Step Three:Before washing your hair extensions, apply conditioner to the ends of the extensions- this will help prevent the dye from running to the non-dyed parts of the wefts. Then, continue to wash your ombre locks with our washing, drying and styling guide here.

2.How to Dye Hair Extensions Lighter

The answer to ‘how to dye hair extensions lighter’ is simple- you can’t. As almost all the clip in hair extensions have already been through a chemical process, we advise NOT to dye your hair extensions lighter or bleach them. Instead, if you want to lighten your hair extensions, we suggest using a toner rather than a semi or permanent hair dye. A toner allows the natural hair colour to come through and simply, add ‘tones’ to your hair extensions. Although it might only give a subtle change in hair colour, it is much more kinder to use than bleaching your hair extensions! Or you can by a natural color hair extensions that haven’t been processed by the factory ,these extensions are the same as your own hair ,you can dye them into any color you want .

3.How to dye hair extensions darker

5

Final guide on how to dye hair extensions, is dyeing them darker. Most of the clip in hair extensions can only be dyed one to two shades darker, again, this is because they have already been through a chemical process, so bleach is a no go! But if you can’t quite find your perfect hair shade, then we suggest buying a set of hair extensions that are lighter so that they can be dyed darker to your desired shade (Our 613A white blonde extensions is a good choice ). To dye hair extensions darker, you will need:

– Hair dye kit
– Mixing bowl
– Gloves
– Tint brush
– Shampoo and conditioner

Step One:Start by applying the dye to each individual weft. Then use your tint brush to smudge in the dye, making sure that every strand is covered.

Step Two:Leave the dye on for the recommended time given on the instructions.

Step Three:Once the dye has developed and you have followed the dyeing instructions provided, you can then proceed to wash your hair extensions. To do this, hold your extensions at the top of the weft and rinse under warm water. Then lather shampoo into the extensions and rinse away before repeating with a second shampoo. Once you have finished shampooing and rinsing the extensions, apply a small amount of conditioner and leave on for a few moments and rinse away.

Step Four:Complete our guide on how to dye hair extensions by leaving the extensions to air dry flat on a dry towel. Avoid brushing at this stage as brushing will only cause the extensions to shred. Instead, leave until the next morning and comb once they are thoroughly dry.

Tips

  • Don’t dye your hair extensions more than three times it will ruined your extensions .
  • Don’t wash your extensions very often (you can wash them once a week) and try to not use any products on your extensions expect the shampoo or conditioner when you wash them .More you wash them more drier they will be .
  • Brush them often to prevent tangle and don’t sleep or take shower with them .

So, there you have it- a complete guide on how to dye hair extensions! Whether it’s dyeing your hair darker or getting the ombre look, whatever hair shade you’re wishing for, make sure to follow these tips for a perfect dye job! What hair shade are you coveting right now?

Steps for Wearing Hair Extensions

If you just can’t make sure about giving hair extensions a go, but really want to play around with a different length or pump up your hair’s volume? Here are several easy steps to teach you how to apply them .

Step one :Layout the rows of extensions in order that they will be positioned in your hair. You always start at the bottom of your head.

6

Step two: Preparing your natural hair is the most important step before you begin applying clip in hair extensions. This helps to ensure they are undetectable. This may mean blow drying your hair to give it some volume, and straightening the ends so there is no obvious separation between the end of your natural hair and your extensions.

2

Step three: Start at the bottom, segment a section of your hair and use sectioning clips (available in our accessories range) to part it. Tease your hair along the root and clip in your first row. (3 clip piece)

9

Step four: Continue this method of separating your hair in a line and teasing it at the root for grip row by row. (install three clips and four clips pieces on by one on the back of the head )

Step five: The x2 rows of 2 clips are to be placed on either side of your head a couple of centimetres about your ears. The individual clips are to be placed at the front to balance out any layers you have in your natural hair. Make sure 2 clip and 1 clip pieces are not applied too close to your own hair line .

7
Step six: Style to taste. Remember to use a low heat blow dry and ceramic straightener on your human hair extensions. You can also trim and layer your new extensions.

8

Tips : Application of Clip In Hair Extensions should always be done after you have straightened your natural hair as best as you can. This will help the end result to look natural and will ensure optimal blending.

Reducing your risk of kinks. It is important to remember that clip in hair extensions are quite simple. It may just take two or three times to learn how to do it quickly. Whenever you want to check how to apply clip in hair extensions reference this page or contact our hair extension experts  .
