How to Make Perfect Top Knots for Long Hair

How to make a perfect top knot bun (neat and formal)?

A top knot bun is a bundle of hair wound into place on the top of your head. It’s an easy hairdo for anyone with hair that is at least shoulder-length or longer. For those with braided locks, there is also a version of the top knot provided here.

1. Purchase a hair weft or extension. Match it your existing hair color; if in doubt, go and ask custom service for assistance. Extensions can be purchased from http://www.donalovehair.com/125-ombre-balayage. We provide human hair extension of great quality.

2. Divide the hair into two parts. Starting at the base of the ponytail, wind each part around the other part, moving in a circular fashion around the base. Keep the wrapping neat by winding always in the same direction and capturing any loose pieces.

  • Alternatively, wind only one part around and around. If doing this, it helps to twist the ponytail length first.
  • A messier bun can be made by teasing the hair before dividing, then wrapping in different directions.

3. Wrap the bun around the ponytail holder.

4. Secure the knot with hairpins. Begin from the base of the bun to keep it solidly in place. Then pin in any loose ends that won’t sit in the bun of their own accord.

5. Add hairspray. A formal, neat bun should be sprayed to keep the bun neat and in place for the duration of the wear.

6. Decorating a top knot bun.Although not necessary, a top knot bun can be decorated if liked.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Cover in a net, as for ballerinas. Crocheted nets make a bold, colorful statement.
  • Slide a hair clip/barrette or pretty slide onto the center back of the bun.
  • Use clips with features attached to them, such as butterflies or flowers.

How to DIY Silver Hair Dyeing and Maintain its Color

Professional Silver/ Grey Hair Dyeing Process

When going intentionally grey, the best thing you can do is have the help of a talented professional. There are several steps to dyeing hair gray and getting the perfect shade and tone is everything.

Number one: Go in for a consultation! Your stylist can give you an idea of the length of time it will take and an estimate on the total cost. You can better prepare yourself this way both time wise and financially.

Step 1: Bleaching

If you are going from dark brown or black hair to silver grey hair, you will likely need more than one bleaching process and most stylists charge per process. This can be uncomfortable for most people, so be prepared for a bit of discomfort. Grey hair is achieved by dyeing light blonde hair grey, so the light blonde has to be achieved first.

Step 2: Toner

The stylist will next apply a purple toner to your hair. This is important (obviously, or else they wouldn’t do it right?) because the purple toner will remove any yellow undertones left by the bleach giving you the ideal silvery white base for the grey dye to be added to.

Purple is the direct opposite color of yellow on a color wheel, so it counteracts it. The toner will usually have to sit for a bit before being washed out but should not be uncomfortable.

Step 3: Coloring

Here is the fun part. You can start visualizing all the fun things you will be doing with your hair, planning on stepping out into the spotlight with the wind blowing your tresses, in the outfit you secretly bought to reveal your new hairdo, the works. Why? Because you’re nearly finished!

At this point your stylist will apply the color, which looks purple. Once it’s applied, the color usually has to sit for approximately 30 minutes, and then it is washed out.

Step 4: Blow Dry and Style

We’re all familiar with this part of the process, even if we have never colored our hair. By this point the excitement should be palpable. If you are at a salon that also offers makeup services, consult with the makeup artist.

A new hair color can mean new makeup ideas if you are open to them, and honestly why not? You did just change your hair color to grey right? Maximize the impact and try a new look all the way around.

Maintaining Gray or Silver Hair

These are the common issues you can expect when having gray/ silver hair color:

• Bleaching dries the hair out. Be prepared to moisturize your hair more often and be more careful with it.

• Gray hair can fade quickly; you can combat this using a color-depositing product to keep your color true. This will hold you over between visits at the salon.

15538526_938260109641913_3477423376467755008_n

• Use a color-safe, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner and be prepared to use more conditioner than you are used to. The best usually is a rich blue or purple color and is designed for silver or gray hair.

• For those of us with naturally darker hair it may not occur to us that you can end up staining your hair. Makeup is one of the most likely ways to stain your hair accidentally, just try not to let it sit. When you notice it, take care of it.

• As your hair grows out, you can do touch-ups or you can love the darker roots, whatever you are comfortable with!

Your Personal Guide to Winter Hair Care

Holliday season is upon us. The time of year, when we need our hair to look its best, but low temperature, cold wind and snow can damage it easily. That’s why The Right Hairstyles provides you with 7 Essential Hair Care Routines that will keep your hair shiny and healthy this harsh winter.

ed783b55b4ccb6836466e9c201d03191

1. First things first, KEEP WASHING YOUR HAIR TO A MINIMUM. Cutting it down to 2-3 times a week would prevent your hair from drying out too much. Everyday wash, in combination with freezing weather outside, can lead to extreme damage of your hair, causing dandruff, itchiness and hair breakage.

2. KEEP IT LUKEWARM, your hair and scalp would appreciate it. Try to hold off on rinsing for a few extra minutes and stick to lukewarm or cooler water since heat makes you lose moisture faster.

3. MOISTURISE IT! Cold winds, dry air, low temperature…. All this is soaking the shine and energy out of your hair. Conditioning is extremely important, but in winter months it becomes part and parcel of your hair care routine. Things such as a hair dryer and winter air deplete moisture from hair and scalp. We recommend you to deep-nourish your hair once a week and use a leave-in conditioner or hair oil on a regular basis.

4. DRY IT RIGHT. Try not to over dry your hair, as too much heat will cause moisture loss, but also, if you will ever decide to leave the house with slightly wet hair – think twice. Going outside in winter with hair that is not dried properly can lead to a bunch of problems not only with hair and scalp, but also with your general health condition. So, whether you take some extra minutes to use a hair dryer or let your hair dry naturally, just make sure it happens before you leave the house.

5. NO-HEATED APPLIANCES POLICY. Your hair is being tortured enough with constant temperature changes, heat from hair dryers, cold wind, etc. So, try to avoid a curling iron, a flat iron and even a blow dryer as much as possible. If you do not imagine your happy life without them, consider using some good quality heat protect spray.

6. TRIM half an inch every 6-8 month if you are maintaining length. This will prevent breakage from moving up the hair and will promote healthy hair and its growth.

7. COVER UP! Hat, scarf, wool beanie… whatever makes you happy. Just keep your hair covered from all of those external irritants. Optionally, use a silk scarf before putting on a hat or beanie, that will protect your hair from the damage caused by the hat rubbing against your hair and will cut down on the static.
